DigitalOcean Port 25: Complete Guide

DigitalOcean blocks outbound port 25 (SMTP) on all new Droplets by default. This is a policy decision to prevent spam abuse from their network. The block operates at the hypervisor/network level — not in the Droplet firewall — so it cannot be removed by editing iptables or UFW rules.

To request port 25 removal on your own DigitalOcean account: submit a support ticket explaining your legitimate email use case. Approval depends on account age, billing history, and the plausibility of your use case. New accounts are frequently denied. The process typically takes 3–7 days.

Our open port DigitalOcean accounts are pre-configured with port 25 unrestricted. You receive the account and can immediately set up a mail server — no waiting for DigitalOcean support approval.

We offer three tiers: Open Port 3 Droplets ($99), Open Port 10 Droplets ($199), and Open Port 25 Droplets ($299). The number refers to the maximum simultaneous Droplets — more Droplets enables more distributed sending infrastructure.

After receiving a port 25 open account, install Postfix or Haraka as your MTA, configure your domain's SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records, set up reverse DNS, and verify with MXToolbox before beginning to send.
